Background

Pesticide Action Nexus Association (PAN-Ethiopia) is an Ethiopian residents charity organization established to work on environment and development so as to enhance and promote a safe and sustainable environment protected from harms posed by pesticides and other hazardous chemicals by promoting the close collaboration of government, non-governmental organizations, civil society interest groups, urban and rural communities. PAN-Ethiopia is looking for a qualified and competent professional for its Cotton project, which is being implemented in Gamo Zone, South Ethiopia Region.

Job summary

The Project Officer will be responsible for the effective implementation of the cotton project across various districts and villages in Gamo Zone. The officer will also oversee team coordination and support field-based activities conducted by field officers. Additionally, the officer will ensure close collaboration and smooth communication with government agriculture offices in the respective project areas, facilitating the effective implementation and successful delivery of the project.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the planning and execution of project activities, ensuring
    effective implementation and alignment with organizational goals
  • Deliver training and technical support to extension workers, cotton farmers, and field
    officers, focusing on sustainable cotton production practices, including organic farming
    methods
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, biannual, and annual project reports, ensuring
    proper monitoring and timely updates on project activities
  • Schedule and facilitate regular planning meetings with the project team to ensure
    alignment, progress tracking, and effective coordination.
  • Facilitate the development of training and extension materials for integrated pest and
    production management that can be used for extension works
  • Ensure the systematic collection of project-related data to support monitoring, evaluation.
  • Liaise with the program coordinator and key staff members to discuss program activities
    and strengthen partnerships with stakeholders in the project area

Job requirements

Required qualifications, competence and experience:

  • MSc degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, Agriculture, Entomology or other related fields
  • BSc degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, Agriculture or other related fields
  • Five years and above practical experience for MSc degree and 10 years and above
  • practical experience for BSc degree
  • Experience of working with smallholder farmers
  • Good knowledge of various plant protection methods
  • Strong analytical, planning, coordination, facilitation, record keeping, communication and reporting skills
  • Able to mobilize a team and also work with minimum supervision – ability to work independently
  • Good command of English language and computer skills
  • Spoken and written Gamogna is mandatory as the position is meant to work with smallholder farmers in Gamo
  • Willingness to travel extensively, including to remote sites in the project areas
  • Must have a motorbike driving license.
